At 7:24 p.m. on June 25, 2018 the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office served an arrest warrant on Nathaniel Mefferd (33) of Ruthven, Ia., at the Palo Alto County Jail where Meffered is being incarcerated on other charges. Meffered was served 12 counts of theft in the 5th degree, all of which are simple misdemeanors. Mefferd, while being incarcerated in the Palo Alto County Jail, obtained a pin number for a calling card from another inmate, and made 12 calls without the authorization to do so. Mefferd was unable to post the $1,500 bond and remains in the Palo Alto County Jail.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
