Two Vehicle Accident

On 11/06/20109 at 1:50 P.M. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a two-vehicle accident that had occurred in the 3800 block of 360th St., Emmetsburg. A 2007 Freightliner semi, pulling a flat bed trailer being operated by Gerald Groon (73) of Akron, Iowa and owned by Kirk Banks, was west bound on the highway. The Freightliner was pulling off of the roadway to the right when a 1994 Chevy S10, owned by Samantha Carr of Ruthven and operated by a male juvenile, also traveling west bound attempted to pass the semi. The juvenile lost control of the Chevy in the wet, snowy conditions and fish tailed, striking the driver’s side of the semi-tractor with the rear end of the pick-up. The Chevy then came to rest in the south ditch. The Freightliner sustained minor damage estimated at $500.00, and the S10 sustained minor damage estimated at $1000.00. Both subjects involved reported no injuries. The male juvenile driver of the pick-up was cited for failure to maintain control/to fast for conditions.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
