On 11/20/2018 at 5:28 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an accident involving two vehicles, one of which was on fire. The accident occurred at the intersection of 460th Avenue and 460th Street. According to the investigation by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, a 2010 Agco Terra-Gator, owned by Gregory Luke Elbert but driven by Ryan Gene VanWyhe, age 36 of Estherville, was traveling south on 460th Avenue and approaching the intersection of 460th Street. A second vehicle, a 2014 Toyota Camry, owned and driven by Rebecca Ann White, age 30 from Fort Dodge, was also traveling south on 460th Avenue and was behind VanWyhe. VanWyhe vehicle turned to go east on 460th Street and was struck in the driver’s side by the White vehicle. After the collision, the White vehicle became engulfed in flames. White was able to escape the vehicle in which she was operating.
White received minor injuries as a result of the collision. VanWyhe was not injured at the time of the report. The White vehicle sustained severe damage and is considered a total loss. The Elbert farm equipment suffered an undisclosed amount of damage. White was issued a citation for Prohibited Passing (Passing too near a bridge, intersection or railroad crossing.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Palo Alto County Health System, the Mallard Fire Department and the Mallard First Responders.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
