On Friday, November 16th, 2018 at 8:57 p.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 4200 Block of 360th Street for a report of a two vehicle accident. Upon investigation at the scene, it was determined that Trey Johnson (19) of Graettinger, Ia., was driving a 1990 Buick LeSabre eastbound in the 4200 block of 360th Street when he lost control and entered the westbound lane. The Johnson vehicle collided with a 2014 Dodge Ram Van driven by Donald Karl (48) of Spencer, Ia, who was traveling westbound in the 4200 block of 360th Street.
Johnson and Karl were seen by the Palo Alto County Ambulance Service and released without injury. Estimated damage to the Johnson vehicle is $4,000 and the estimated damage to the Karl vehicle is $6,000. It was determined through the investigation that the Johnson vehicle did not have adequate tires for the conditions which resulted in loss of traction and Johnson was subsequently issued a citation for Defective Tires, a simple misdemeanor.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Emmetsburg Police Department and Palo Alto County Ambulance Service.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
