On 06/26/2018 at 9:28 a.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of 375th Avenue and 300th Street. Upon investigation it was determined that a 2008 Dodge Caravan owned by Craig Kermit Douglas of Newton, Ia., and driven by Cassandra Sue Mueller was northbound on 375th Avenue. Mueller failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection and subsequently struck a 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 driven and owned by Jon Lyle Sorenson, Ruthven, Ia., as he travelled eastbound through the intersection.
The Dodge Ram entered the ditch on the north east side of the intersectionand rolled several times before coming to rest on its wheels. The Dodge Caravan came to rest on the north east corner of the intersection, facing south. Both Dodge’s were deemed a total loss.
Sorenson and two passengers were treated on scene by the Palo Alto County Ambulance Service. Mueller was transported to Palo Alto County Hospital by the Palo Alto County Ambulance Service. Mueller was issued a citation for Failure to Obey Stop Sign.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the by the Palo Alto County Ambulance Service, Graettinger Fire Department and Palo Alto County Secondary Roads.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
