On 6/14/18 at approximately 1:49 P.M. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate an accident that happened at the intersection of 480th Avenue and 380th Street. A 2001 Freightliner driven by Drew Douglas Herum of Dolliver, was driving south on 480th Avenue when he reached the stop sign at 380th Street. While stopping at the stop sign, Herum realized that he had pulled up to far into the intersection to allow oncoming traffic to turn onto 480th Avenue. Herum started to back up the Freightliner he was driving and struck a 2016 Jeep Cherokee driven by Johnny Cherie Hurley of Emmetsburg.
No damage was reported to the trailer the Freightliner was pulling. Damage to the Jeep driven by Hurley was estimated at $1500.00. No injuries were reported in the accident. Herum was issued a citation for Unsafe Backing.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
