On 5-25-18 at 9:01am, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a personal injury accident 3 miles SE of Ruthven at the intersection of 360Ave and 380St.
A 2009 Freightliner Semi with a tanker trailer, driven by Zachary J. Hellinga of Lake Park, was traveling east on 380 St, and was approaching the intersection at 360Ave. Hellinga failed to obey a stop sign and collided with a 2006 Ford Taurus driven by Amy A. Sikora of Ruthven, which was north boud on 360Ave. After colliding with the Freightliner, the Ford spun down into the east ditch and came to rest and the Freightliner came to rest east of the intersection.
Sikora was transporting by Emmetsburg Ambulance to the Palo Alto County Hospital.
Zachary J. Hellinga was cited for failure to obey a stop sign in connection with the accident. Damage to Freightliner was estimated at $10,000 and Ford was considered a total loss.
Assisting on scene was the Ruthven Fire Department using the Jaws of Life, and the Emmetsburg and Ruthven Ambulances.
