On 5/22/2016 at 2:09 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle in the ditch. Information gathered from the reporting party was that the vehicle was located in the east ditch between Emmetsburg and Mallard on Highway 4. With the assistance of the Emmetsburg Police Department, the vehicle was found in the 4300 block of 460th Avenue. Upon an investigation into the accident, a 1997 Chevrolet K2500 owned by Gary Neal Anderson of Mallard but driven by Dean Albert Anderson age 28 of Mallard, was southbound in the 4300 block of 460th Avenue. Dean Albert Anderson failed to maintain control of the vehicle and entered the east ditch of 460th Avenue and rolled. The vehicle came to rest on its top. From the investigation, Dean Albert Anderson was charged with Operating While Intoxicated-1st Offense and Failure to Maintain Control. Anderson was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail, without incident, where he was held until his initial appearance before a magistrate.
Subsequent to the investigation into the vehicle accident, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office also arrested Gary Neal Anderson, age 67 of Mallard, for Operating While Intoxicated-1st Offense, as he responded to his son’s call, prior to the Sheriff’s Office arrival, concerning the accident. Gary Neal Anderson was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail where he was held until his initial appearance before a magistrate.
The Anderson vehicle was deemed a total loss from the accident. There were no injuries reported during the investigation.
