On Tuesday, December 29th, 2015, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office conducted tobacco compliance checks of businesses in Palo Alto County that held current permits to sell tobacco products. During these checks the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office cited two individuals at two separate businesses after illegal sales of tobacco were made to a minor under the legal age of 18. Tyler Olson, 19, of Mallard was cited after making an illegal sale at Sparky’s in Mallard. James Schmidt, 81, of Ayrshire was cited after making an illegal sale at the Ayrshire Quick Stop. Both Olson and Schmidt were issued citations for employee providing tobacco to a minor, which is a simple misdemeanor.
