On 8/11/2019 at 6:58 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a single vehicle rollover accident which occurred in the 2800 block of 445th Avenue. The Palo Alto County Communications Center was advised that the vehicle involved was on fire and all occupants were able to exit the vehicle. According to the accident conducted by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, a 2008 Chevy Impala, owned by Bruce William Gerdes but driven by a male juvenile was north bound on 445th Ave. when driver lost control of the Gerdes vehicle and the vehicle entered the west ditch area. The Gerdes vehicle struck the embankment which vaulted the vehicle, then rolled in the ditch and came to rest on its top. A total of four (4) juveniles were able to escape the vehicle prior to the vehicle becoming engulfed.
The Gerdes vehicle is deemed a total loss as a result of the accident. The 17 year old driver was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.
