At 8:27 p.m. on December 14, 2017, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a single vehicle accident in the 4000 block of Highway 18. A 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer being operated by Deborah Long (56) of Ruthven was westbound when the vehicle lost control due to the ice covered road. The vehicle spun across the eastbound lane and entered the south ditch which caused the vehicle to roll on to the passenger’s side. A passenger, Megan Long (17) sustained non-incapacitating injuries as a result of the accident and was transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital by the Emmetsburg Ambulance Service. Damage to the 2004 Trailblazer was estimated at 5,000.
