On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the intersection of 320th Street and 400th Avenue for a report of a grain wagon rollover. Following an investigation at the scene, it was determined that Shamus Currans (36) of Graettinger, IA, was driving a 2009 Caterpillar Challenger tractor pulling two Parker 5250 grain wagons full of corn. As Currans began turning onto 320th Street from 400th Avenue a front tire on the wagon had a mechanical failure causing the axel to hit the gravel road. The front wagon came to a rest on its side, spilling the corn into the ditch and a field entryway. Currans was able to bring the tractor and wagons to a stop without further damage to the wagons or roadway.
Estimated damages to the wagon are at $4000. No injuries were reported at the scene.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Palo Alto Secondary Roads Department and various local residents assisted in the cleanup of grain.
