On 8/19/2022 at 5:48 PM, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle accident that occurred near the 100 block of Iowa Street, in Cylinder. A 1995 Chevrolet G30 van owned and operated by Grant David Waldschmidt, age 34 of Cylinder, was driving south through an alley west of Iowa Street. Waldschmidt was operating the van in a careless manner and entered a yard behind 111 Iowa Street. The Waldschmidt vehicle collided with a tree and then a garage, before leaving the scene of the accident. Following an investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Grant David Waldschmidt (34) of Cylinder, on charges of O.W.I. 2nd Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, a Simple Misdemeanor, and Careless Driving, a Simple Misdemeanor. Following his arrest, Waldschmidt was placed in jail to await his initial appearance before a judge.
Damage was estimated at $2500.00 to the Waldschmidt vehicle, $150 to the tree owned by Henry Bonnstetter and $4500 to a garage owned by Henry Bonnstetter. There were no reported injuries as a result of the collision.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
