At 5:17 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2017, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a single vehicle car accident in the 3500 Block of 420th Avenue. The Sheriff’s Office determined a 2014 Hyundai driven by David Hofmann (31) of Everly, Ia., pulled into a hog confinement and was found sleeping in his car. The farmer woke Hofmann up by honking his horn and Hofmann proceeded to drive acrossed a harvested corn field and ended up crashing into a dredge ditch.
Upon investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office determined Hofmann was operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other drug. Hofmann was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated 1st offense, a serious misdemeanor.
Damage to Hofmann’s vehicle is undetermined as he was involved in an accident earlier in the night which was not reported to law enforcement. Hofmann was not injured in the accident.
Assisting the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was the Iowa State Patrol.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
