On 06/29/2015 the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a two vehicle accident that had occurred in the 2700 block of 420th Avenue. Upon investigation it was determined that a 2014 Ford Fusion driven by Barbara Jean Croxdale of Ames was traveling northbound on 420th Avenue when she experienced a medical issue. The result of the medical issue caused Croxdale to rear end a 2012 GMC Savana driven by Lauren Ann Johnson of Mason City as she was attempting to make a right hand turn into the driveway at 2741 420th Avenue. The impact forced the GMC into the east ditch were it rolled once and came to rest back on its wheels. The Ford crossed the roadway and entered the west ditch where it came to rest. Johnson was treated for minor injuries on scene. Croxdale was transported by ambulance to Palo Alto County Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles are considered a total loss. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office and the Palo Alto County Ambulance Service.
On June 6, 2014 at 12:50pm, The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a car/deer accident 3 1/2 miles east of Ruthven on Highway 18.
A 2011 Nissan Sentra driven by Janet Griffin of Omaha , NE was driving west on Highway 18 and collided with a deer which entered the roadway from north ditch.
No injuries reported and damages to Nissan $4,900.
On Sunday June 28, 2015 at approximately 5:30am the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a naked women was walking on River Road toward Graettinger. Deputies arrived to find Jessica Mae Brennan (35) of Graettinger, IA walking westbound in the 4200 block of 290th St. After questioning Brennan about the situation, Brennan told the deputy she was just out for a walk. Brennan was found to be intoxicated and subsequently arrested for Public Intoxication which is a simple misdemeanor.
Brennan was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail where she was booked in to await her initial appearance before a judge.
On 06-26-15 at approximately 4:42 p.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was responding to a dog call at 1302 Lincoln St. in Ayrshire. A 911 call was received at the same area shortly after. The 911 call reported that someone shot a gun towards another person and that no one was injured.
Following the investigation into this incident, it was determined that Dirk Alan Rouse of Ayrshire, did shoot his handgun at or towards an area occupied by another person. Rouse was arrested and charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a class “C” felony. He was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail and placed in jail to await his appearance before the magistrate.
On 6/26/2015 at approximately 4:49 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Krista Marie Picht, age 37 of Marathon, IA, on a valid Palo Alto County warrant. The warrant, which dates back to 6/11/2010, is a contempt of court warrant for fail to appear/fail to pay on an original charge of public intoxication. Picht was transferred from Clay County authorities to the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office where she was transported, without incident, to the Palo Alto County Jail. Picht was unable to post the $300.00 cash bond and booked into the Palo Alto County Jail to await her appearance before a magistrate judge.
On 06-24-15 at around 3:30 p.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office responded to a three vehicle accident south of Emmetsburg at the intersection of 390th St. and 460th Av.
A 1993 Dodge Dakota driven by Keagan John Barrett of Emmetsburg was headed north and was stopped at the above intersection. He was waiting to turn west onto 390th St. when a vehicle driven by David Pettinger of Dakota City slowed and due to the vehicles coming up behind him, turned west to avoid a collision with the vehicles. The vehicle behind Pettinger, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am owned and driven by Alicia Marie Reisdorfer of Ida Grove, was not able to stop in time and struck the back of the Barrett vehicle. A 1999 Mercury Sable owned and driven by Tiffany Ann Bonnesen of Emmetsburg, was not able to slow down enough to avoid the Reisdorfer vehicle and struck the back end.
Damage to the Barrett vehicle was estimated at $8000 and no injuries were reported. Damage to the Reisdorfer vehicle was estimated at $15,000 and was considered a total loss. There were minor injuries reported from that vehicle. Damage to the Bonnesen vehicle was estimated at $6000 and no injuries were reported in that vehicle.
Reisdorfer and Bonnesen were both issued citations for failure to stop within an assured clear distace and failure to maintain control.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Emmetsburg Fire Department and the Emmetsburg Ambulance services.
On June 24th, 2015, at approximately 6:40 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an assault that took place in the 4400 block of 460th Avenue. Following an investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office determined that Gabriel Sanculi, 38, of Ruthven assaulted and made threats to Palo Alto County Ambulance personnel while being treated and transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sanculi and transported him, without incident, to the Palo Alto County Jail. Sanculi was charged with assault on persons engaged in certain occupations and harassment in the 1st degree, both aggravated misdemeanors. Sanculi was booked into the Palo Alto County Jail to await his initial appearance before a magistrate.
On 6/23/2105 at approximately 11:25 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested John Wesley Jr. Marcum, age 30 of Graettinger, on valid Palo Alto County Warrant. The warrant issued 6/19/2015 for Violation of Probation stems from an original charge of OWI-2nd offense. Marcum was arrested in the 300 block of E Des Moines St in Graettinger. Marcum was transported, without incident, to the Palo Alto County Jail. Marcum was unable to post the cash or approved surety bond of $5000.00 and was booked into the Palo Alto County Jail to await his appearance before a magistrate.
On June 22, at 6:35am, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two vehicle accident in the 5100-Blk of 370 ave.
A 2010 Buick Lacrosse driven by Nancy J. Friedrich age 44 of Algona, was driving west on 370st, and decreased her speed due to the heavy rain and poor visiblity. At that time, another vehicle, a 1988 Chevy S10 driven by Garryl Householder age 78 of Algona, rear ended the Fredrich vehicle.
No injuries were reported and $600 damage to the Chevy and $900 damage to Buick
On 6-22-15, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one vehicle accident in the 200_Blk of Main, Cylinder. A 2001 F250 Ford driven by Colby J. Kraninger age 19, of Milford was driving south through Cylinder, when he collided with a tree which blew down as he was driving.
The Ford was deemed a total loss and no injuries reported.
