On September 14, 2015, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Crystal Reese, 22, of Mallard on two valid Palo Alto County warrants. Both warrants stem from original charges of violation of a protective order= simple misdemeanors. Reese was also cited for driving while suspended= a simple misdemeanor. Reese was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail, without incident. There were no bonds set for the arrest warrants. Reese was booked in to the Palo Alto County Jail to await her initial appearance before a magistrate.
On 9/13/2015 at approximately 6:01 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle accident with no injuries located in the 4000 block of 360th St. A 1994 Chevrolet Caprice, driven by 33 yr. old Amanda Lynn Eickholt, was traveling east on 360th St and was approaching the intersection of 400th Ave. and was being followed by a vehicle driven by 54 yr. old Connie Lou Halfpop. As the Eickholt vehicle slowed to turn north onto 400th Avenue from 360th St, the Halfpop vehicle attempted to drive her vehicle around the Eickholt vehicle near or within the intersection. As the Halfpop vehicle attempted to go around the Eickholt vehicle, the Eickholt vehicle collided with the Halfpop vehicle.
Damage to the Halfpop vehicle was estimated at $2500.00. Damage to the Eickholt vehicle was estimated at $1000.00. As a result of the investigation into the accident, Halfpop was issued a citation for Passing too near an intersection. Again, there were no injuries reported from the accident.
On 09/12/2015 at 10:10 A.M., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Aaron Phillip Krusen, 26, of Mallard on a valid Pocahontas County warrant for Harassment in the 3rd degree. Krusen was unable to post the $300.00 cash or surety bond and was later turned over to the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office.
On Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 3:50pm the Palo Alto County Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident in the 2800 block of Highway 4. A White 2015 Chevrolet Impala driven by Jorgen Horstmann (65) from the country of Denmark was stopped on the shoulder of the highway facing north. A Gray 2001 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Joshua Alfred Petrich (17) of Graettinger, IA was northbound as well on Highway 4. The shoulder in this area is small and the Horstmann vehicle was close to the white line when Petrich misjudged his distance away from the Horstmann vehicle and side swiped it.
The Horstmann vehicle sustained an estimated $4000 damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle. The Petrich vehicle sustained an estimated $4000 damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
On 9/7/2013 at 2:47 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident located at the intersection of South Brown St. and West Patterson St. in Graettinger. The accident involved a vehicle and an all-terrain vehicle or ATV. According to an investigation done on scene, it was determined that a green 2003 Kawasaki KFX400, owned and driven by 25 yr. old Joshua Noris Shryock, had entered the roadway on South Brown St. from an off-road trail located to the south and east of the roadway. As the Shryock vehicle entered South Brown St, it made contact with a vehicle owned by Brandon Joseph Tripp and driven by 28 yr. old Danielle Elizabeth Prendergast. The point of impact of the Shryock vehicle was located in the front to left portion of the ATV. The point of impact of the Tripp vehicle was to the front left bumper area of the vehicle.
No injuries were reported to authorities during the investigation. Damage to Tripp vehicle is estimated at $2000.00. Damage to the Shryock ATV is estimated at $500.00.
As a result of the investigation, Joshua Noris Shryock was issued a citation of Careless Operation in violation of Graettinger municipal code 75.05(8)(D). Shryock was cited and released to appear on the violation.
On 9/7/2015 at 11:30 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested James Brandon Clark, age 24 of Cedar Rapids, on a valid Palo Alto County warrant for Contempt of Court. Clark was transferred from Clay County authorities to the Palo Alto County Jail, without incident, to await his initial appearance before a magistrate. Bond on the Contempt of Court warrant was set at $500.00 cash only.
On 09-07-15 at 1:32 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a domestic assault that had taken place at 4684 370th St., east of Emmetsburg. Following an investigation into this incident, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Samantha Ann Miller of Emmetsburg for serious domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury. She was transported without incident to the Palo Alto County Jail where she was placed to await her initial appearance before the magistrate.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Emmetsburg Police Department and the Emmetsburg Police Reserves.
On September 6, 2015 at 9:00 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated an assault which occurred at a Ruthven residence. After investigating, a 17yr old male was arrested and charged with Willful Injury and Aggravated Assault. The juvenile was later transported to the Central Iowa Detention Center in Eldora, IA
On Sunday September 6, 2015 at 2:52 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office observed a male individual laying face down on a sidewalk. The deputy woke the individual up and identified him as 28 year old Billy Joel Sundall of Ruthven, IA. Sundall was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested for Public Intoxication. He was taken to the Palo Alto County Jail where he was booked into jail. Public Intoxication is a simple misdemeanor.
On Sunday, September 06, 2015 at approximately 01:13 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Clint Nelson, 38, of Fenton on valid Palo Alto County warrants. The warrants stem from original charges of theft in the 4th degree= serious misdemeanor and theft in the 5th degree= simple misdemeanor. Nelson was taken into custody and transported without incident to the Palo Alto County Jail. Bail was set for $1,250.00 for theft in the 4th degree and $250.00 for theft in the 5th degree. Nelson did not post bail and was placed in jail to await his initial appearance before a magistrate.
