On Tuesday September 1, 2015 Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office notified the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office of a active warrant on an inmate that was currently being held in the Palo Alto County Jail. A deputy served Kimberley Ann Priester (47) of Estherville, IA with a warrant for Contempt of Court for failing to pay fines. Priester’s bond was set at $705.50
On Saturday August 29, 2015 at 4:42pm the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Graettinger for a report of a group of individuals shooting Airsoft BB Guns at a group of juveniles at the City Park in Graettinger. The City of Graettinger has a city ordinance that prohibits the discharging of any kind of weapon including BB guns. 3 juveniles sustained minor injuries in the incident.
The Palo Alto Sheriff’s Office cited 3 juvenile males into juvenile court for the city ordinance of Discharging Weapons. 20 year old Victor Norman Handy of Graettinger was also among the group charged with Discharging Weapons.
On 9/4/15 at 9:30 A.M., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jonathan Michael Payer (33) of Ackley, Iowa on a valid Palo Alto County Arrest Warrant for Contempt of Court for failing to pay child support. Payer was unable to post the $500.00 cash only bond and was placed in jail to await his initial appearance before a judge.
On 9/3/15 at 8:49 A.M., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to a 2 vehicle accident that happened at the intersection of 410th Avenue and Highway 18. A 2008 Sterling truck driven by Marvin Deon Paul of Baton Rouge, Louisiana was driving east on Highway 18. As Paul reached the intersection of 410th Avenue, he started to turn south on 410th Avenue when his truck was struck from behind by a 2001 Sterling Semi-tractor driven by John Edward Miller of Graettinger. Miller didn’t see the truck driven by Paul turning and subsequently clipped the right rear corner. There was no damage reported to the Sterling truck that Paul was driving. Damage to the Sterling Semi-Tractor that Miller was driving was estimated at $250.00. Miller was issued a citation for Failure to Reduce Speed to a Reasonable and Proper Rate.
On 9/3/2015 at approximately 2:08 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the 3000 block of 370th Avenue on a vehicle owned and operated by Michael Edward Mann; 44, of Graettinger. During the investigation into the traffic stop, Mann was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated/Impaired (OWI) 1st Offense, serious mis. Mann was also cited for open container (driver) simple mis.
Mann was booked into the Palo Alto County Jail, without incident, to await his initial appearance before a magistrate on the OWI-1st offense charge.
Following a traffic stop on 8-28-2015 at 3:00 p.m., in the 4700 Block of 320th Street, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Christopher Tike Gustoff (32) of Spencer on charges of Driving While Revoked a Serious Misdemeanor. Following his arrest Gustoff was placed in jail to await his initial appearance before a judge.
On 08-23-15 at around 6:37 p.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Stephanie Renae Steinkamp of Emmetsburg, on a valid Kossuth County Warrant on a mittimus for an original charge of OWI 1st.
She was taken into custody and was transported without incident to the Palo Alto County Jail where she was turned over to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office. This mittimus has no bond.
On August 3, 2015, The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was advised of an accident which occurred on July 29, 2015. After the investigation it was determined that there was a one vehicle accident which happened in the 3400-blk of 400th ave.
A 2008 Ford F250 driven by Christopher Moritz of Terrill was northbound and was cresting a hill. As Moritz crested the hill, there was a 2004 GMC Envoy driven by James Cole Jr, of Emmetsburg was southbound, both vehicle swerved to get back in there lane. Moritz entered the east ditch and then collided with a field drive.
No damage to the GMC and $1000 damage to the Ford. No injuries were reported
On Tuesday, August 18th, 2015 the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to a possible protective order violation at 309 South 6th Street, in Mallard. During the investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop in the 500 block of State Street, in Emmetsburg. Following the traffic stop, The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Vance Yates III, 19, of Emmetsburg for violation of a protective order, a simple misdemeanor. Yates was also cited for minor in possession of alcohol, a simple misdemeanor. Yates was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail and booked in to await his initial appearance before a magistrate.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office also cited Crystal Reese, 22, of Mallard for failure to prove financial liability coverage and driving while suspended, both simple misdemeanors. Reese was issued citations and given a court date to appear before a magistrate. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Emmetsburg Police Department during the investigation.
On 8/14/15 at approximatley 10:25 A.M. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brian Loren Stowe (43) of Waverly Iowa on a valid Federal Arrest Warrant for Manufacturing Counterfeit Currency and Dealing in Counterfeit Currency. Following his arrest, Stowe was placed in the Palo Alto County Jail to await transport by the United States Secret Service to Federal Court in Cedar Rapids Iowa.
