On 11/4/2018, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office concluded its investigation into an illegal dumping case. The investigation of the illegal dumping of tires began on 9/21/2018 when the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of numerous tires being dumped alongside and onto adjacent properties in the 4100 block of 500th Avenue. During the investigation, additional tires were located alongside the roadway in the 4200 and 4300 block of 485th Avenue. As a result of the investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office cited Cameron Terry Brown, age 19 of Ruthven, and Rodney Virgil Eaton, age 65 of Ruthven, for the illegal discarding of solid waste onto or in any water or land of the state.
The penalty for Discarding of Solid Waste is defined in IA code section 455.307A. For the first offense, a civil penalty of one thousand dollars may be imposed. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Palo Alto County Attorney’s office and the Palo Alto County Engineer’s Office. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the citizens of Palo Alto County who assisted in this investigation also.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
