Drug Arrests

Following a 3 1/2 month investigation by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Matthew Hunefeld on Palo Alto County Arrest Warrants for 2 Counts of Delivery of over 5 grams of Methamphetamine both Class B Felonies and 1 count of Delivery of less than 5 grams of Methamphetamine, a Class C Felony. Hunefeld was booked into jail on a $25,000 cash or surety bond. Following his arrest, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Hunefeld’s residence in Graettinger. Following the search warrant, Hunefeld was also charged with Possession of 17.6 grams of Methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, a Class B Felony, Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine, a Class D Felony, Possession of a Schedule 4 drug, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana Wax, Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs, all Serious Misdemeanors, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor.

A second resident of the Hunefeld house, Susan Elaine Rice was arrested and charged with Possession of 17.6 grams of Methamphetamine With the Intent to Deliver, a Class B Felony, Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamin, a Class D Felony, Possession of a Schedule 4 Drug, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana Wax, Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs, all Serious Misdemeanors, and Possession of Drug Paraphrenalia, a Simple Misdemeanor. Rice was placed in jail to await her initial appearance before a judge.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the K-9 unit with the Spirit Lake Police Department.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
