On October 10, 2020, at 10:36 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a disturbance located at 4871 490th Avenue near Mallard, IA. It was reported an argument occurred at the residence and the male subject had a loaded firearm and was threatening the female. After investigation into the incident, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Joseph Grethen (70) of Mallard for domestic abuse assault displaying or use of weapon 1st offense, an aggravated misdemeanor. Grethen was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail where he was held awaiting an initial appearance in front of a judge.
Assisting the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office at the scene was the Iowa State Patrol, Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pocahontas Police Department.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
