On December 22, 2019, at 10:08 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to 306 North Van Gordon Avenue, apartment #8 in Graettinger for a disturbance. Deputies from the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office and Emmet County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene and made contact with Oscar Alejandro Bernal (35) of Graettinger.
Following an investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bernal for disorderly conduct and interference with official acts, both simple misdemeanors. Bernal was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail. While in jail, Bernal damaged property in his cell and was subsequently charged with criminal mischief 2nd degree, a class D felony.
Assisting the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office and Emmetsburg Police Department.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
