On 12/17/2015 the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an assault on a 13 year old female student by a substitute teacher at the Graettinger Terril School in Graettinger. On 12/22/2015 at 5:20 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jerry Edward Larsen, 76, of Humboldt on a valid Palo Alto County warrant for Serious Assault, a serious misdemeanor. Larsen was able to post the $2,500.00 cash only bond and was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
On Monday December 21, 2015 at 6:37 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a car deer accident in the 3200 block of 420th Ave. A 2013 Toyota Corolla, driven by Emily Lorraine Sorter (32) of Terril, IA., was southbound on 420 Ave when a deer entered the roadway and sturck the Sorter car. There was an estimated $3,000 damage to the Corolla. No injuries were reported.
On Monday December 21, 2015 at 6:00 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kathleen Brady Ferguson (37) of West Bend, IA on a Pocahontas County Warrant at her home. The warrant was for Attempted Burglary in the 3rd Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor and carried a $2000.00 bond. Kathleen was transported and transferred to the Pocahontas County Jail as she was not able to post bond.
On 12-21-15 at 7:31 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a truck deer accident 3 miles east of Graettinger on 280st. A 2004 Chevy Silverado, driven by Kevin R. Pals (29) of Spencer, was pulling an enclosed H&H trailer westbound in the 4500blk of 280 st. and collided with two deer which were crossing the road.
Damage to Chevy was $800.00 and $100.00 to trailer. No injuries were reported.
On 12/20/2015 at 8:25 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a car deer accident that occurred in the 5200 block of 370th Street. A gold 2011 Chrysler Town & Country van, owned and driven by 62 yr. old Roger Schipull of Hardy, IA, was traveling east on 370th when a deer emerged from the south ditch and onto the roadway where the Schipull vehicle made contact with it. The Schipull vehicle sustained an estimated $2500.00 in damages.
There were no injuries as a result of the accident.
On Saturday December 19, 2015 at 2:20 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an assault that had occurred in the 2800 block of 435th Ave, east of Graettinger. Several individuals were hunting in the area when Donald Joseph McCombs of Graettinger confronted one of the hunters. An argument between the two occurred which led to McCombs assaulting the hunter. No injuries were reported.
McCombs was later processed through the Palo Alto County Jail and released on a citation for Simple Misdemeanor Assault.
On 12/19/2015 at 8:40 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Amanda Dawn Hay, 23, of Emmetsburg on a valid Palo Alto County warrant for Contempt of Court on an original charge of OWI 1st Offense. Hay was able to post the $1,500.00 cash/surety bond and was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
On Saturday December 19, 2015 at 12:26 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop at 470th St. and 380th Ave. south of Ayrshire, IA. A 1996 Chevy Lumina, driven by James Patrick Griffin (51) of Laurens, IA., was stopped for traffic violations. During the course of the stop drug paraphernalia was observed which contained a substance believed to be marijuana.
Griffin was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Speed.
On Friday December 18, 2015 at 9:30pm, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office met with the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office to take custody of a person they arrested on a Palo Alto County Warrant. Shawn Eric Pattison (44) of Graettinger, IA had a warrant for Failure to Appear for a Contempt of Court Hearing. Pattison was transported by Palo Alto Deputies and booked into the Palo Alto County Jail and is being held on a $1000 cash bond.
On 12/18/2015 at 8:09 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a one vehicle accident in the 3700 block of 280th Street. Upon investigation it was determined that a 2000 Peterbilt semi driven by Andrew John Thilges of Whittemore was westbound on 280th Street when the pin holding the 2014 Wilson trailer failed and the trailer came unhooked from the semi. The trailer entered the north ditch where it came to rest. The trailer sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages. There were no injuries reported in the accident.
