Car Deer Accident and Possession of Alcohol

On Sunday, December 10th, 2017, at 9:30 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a car/deer accident in the 4500 block of 415th Street. Following an investigation into the complaint, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office determined that Kolten Long (17), of Cylinder, was driving a 1997 Ford F350 westbound in the 4500 block of 415th Street. A deer entered the roadway from the south ditch and was struck by Long’s vehicle. Long and his passenger, Alex Kunz (18), of Emmetsburg, were not injured in the accident. Long’s vehicle sustained an estimated $500.00 damage in the accident.

While investigating the accident, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office also cited Alex Kunz, age 18 of Emmetsburg, for possessing alcohol under the legal age.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
