Car Deer Accident

On 01-26-17 at approximately 7:37 pm, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a car / deer accident south of Emmetsburg. Joseph Patrick Schany of Emmetsburg was driving his 2005 Pontiac Grand Am eastbound in the 4500 block of 390th St when he struck a deer that entered the roadway. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2000. There were no injuries reported in this accident.

Schany met with a Palo Alto County Deputy at the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office to discuss the accident and after running his driver’s license information, it was determined that Schany had a suspended license for failure to satisfy non-Iowa citation. Schany was issued a citation for driving while suspended, simple misdemeanor, and was released with a court date.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
