On Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 6:50 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of an accident that occurred in the 3800 block of 460th Ave at approximately 5:20 p.m. Upon investigation, it was determined that Virgil Auten, (75) of Mallard, Ia., was driving a 2015 Toyota Sienna southbound in the 3800 block of 460th Ave when a deer emerged from the west ditch. The Auten vehicle struck the deer, causing an estimated $4500 damage. No injuries were reported as a result of the accident.
