On Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 7:25 p.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office served Dawn Vanderhoff (32) and Nathaniel Mefferd (33) both of Ruthven, Ia with valid Palo Alto County Arrest Warrants, original charge of Burglary 3rd Degree, a class “D” Felony. These charges stemmed from the burglary of the United States Post Office in Ruthven on 6-13-18. A search warrant was also executed in connection with this investigation after their arrest at 4:01 a.m. this same date on unrelated arrest warrants. The search of their residence at 1102 Merril Street in Ruthven was conducted at 9:14 a.m. this date where several itmes were seized. Vanderhoff and Mefferd were unable to post the additonal $10,000 cash only bond and remained in the Palo Alto County Jail where they currently await their initial appearance before a judge on their original charges.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
