On 12/28/2019 at 6:17 a.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a reported of a single vehicle accident in the 5200 block of 300th Street. Upon investigation it was determined that a white 1997 Ford Ranger, registered to Rebecca Abdul-Saleem of Whittemore and driven by Charmaigne Eloise Santiago of Algona, was westbound on 300th Street. Santiago slowed as she approached the intersection of 530th Avenue and 300th Street. When Santiago decelerated she lost traction in the roadway. Santiago slid sideways across the eastbound lane of traffic and entered the north ditch. The tires grabbed once the Ford entered the ditch causing it to come to rest on its driver’s side.
Damage to the Ford is estimated at $7,500.00. No injuries were reported. Santiago was issued a citation for failure to maintain control/ reduce speed.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
