On December 27, 2019, at 12:47 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to a semi tractor trailer rollover accident at the intersection of 320th Street and 490th Avenue. A 2017 Mack semi pulling a 2019 Pacer bulk feed trailer, leased to Murphy Brown LLC of Algona, IA., was northbound on 490th Avenue and stopped at a stop sign at 320th Street. The driver of the semi, Kurt Knoner (51) of Algona, IA., attempted to turn east on 320th Street. The rear of the trailer entered the ditch. The trailer would roll on to its right side. The semi tractor remained attached to the trailer and was high centered on the front passenger’s tire.

Damage to the Mack semi tractor was estimated at $50,000. Damage to the Pacer feed trailer was estimated at $25,000. Knoner was evaluated by the Palo Alto County Ambulance Service and declined medical treatment. Knoner was issued a citation for failure to maintain control, a simple misdemeanor and given a court date to appear on the charge.

Assisting the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was the Palo Alto County Ambulance Service, Emmetsburg Fire Department, Vader Recovery Services, and Mitch’s Towing.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
