On Friday, October 8, 2021, at 4:35 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a car accident at the intersection of Highway 18 and West Street in Ruthven. Upon investigation into the accident, it was determined Joshua Peters (38) of Palmer, IA., operating a 2004 GMC pickup, was westbound on Highway 18 when he attempted to make a U-turn in the roadway. A 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, owned and operated by Ronald Hanson (81) of Ayrshire, IA., was also westbound on Highway 18. Hanson would collide with the Peters as he was making a U-turn in the roadway.
Damage to Peters vehicle was estimated at $3,000. Damage to Hanson’s vehicle was estimated at $4,500. Hanson was checked out at the scene by the Ruthven Ambulance Service and was released from the scene. Peters was issued a citation for failure to yield upon entering through highway.
Assisting the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office at the scene was the Ruthven Ambulance Service and Ruthven Fire Department.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
