On 02/09/2021 at 1:04 A.M. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the 5500 block of 390th St. (HWY 18), Cylinder, Iowa. As a result of the stop and subsequent investigation the driver of the vehicle, James Kent (67) of Gruver, Iowa, was placed under arrest and was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail. James was charged with failure to maintain registration plate, failure to provide proof of financial liability, operate a non-registered vehicle, and speeding, all of which are simple misdemeanors. James was also charged with driving while suspended, a non-scheduled simple misdemeanor. James was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance 3rd or subsequent offense – D felony, unlawful possession of prescription drug – serious misdemeanor, possession of contraband in a correctional facility – D felony, possession of drug paraphernalia – simple misdemeanor, and carrying weapons – aggravated misdemeanor.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s was assited with the investigation by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
