Burglary Arrest

On Monday, April 6, 2020, at 2:25 pm, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in progress at 5538 310th Street, Cylinder. With assistance from the Algona Police Department and the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, a traffic stop was conducted in Kossuth County on the suspect vehicle that was described by the reporting party. Officers identified John Genrich (23) of Algona and John Schoenwetter (41) of Algona as the occupants of the suspect vehicle. During the investigation by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that Genrich and Schoenwetter were the burglary suspects described by the reporting party.

Following the investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Genrich and Schoenwetter. Genrich was charged with burglary 3rd degree = class D felony; conspiracy to commit non forcible felony = class D felony; possession of controlled substance = serious misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia = simple misdemeanor. Schoenwetter was charged with burglary 3rd degree = class D felony; conspiracy to commit non forcible felony = class D felony; felon in possession of a firearm = class D felony; possession of controlled substance = serious misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia = simple misdemeanor.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
