Arrest Warrant Served

 

On 07-13-15 at 9:25 p.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Melissa Ann Nissen (21) of Ruthven on a valid Palo Alto County Warrant for Child Endangerment and Domestic Abuse Assault. There was no bond on this warrant until initial appearance before the judge. Nissen was transported without incident to the Palo Alto County Jail where she was placed in jail to await her appearance before the judge.

 

 

Single Vehicle Accident

On Saturday July 11, 2015 at 8:33pm, a Palo Alto County Deputy was westbound in the 3600 block of Highway 18, near Ruthven, IA, when an eastbound vehicle lost control in front of the deputy. The tire of a 1997 Ford Explorer, driven by Kristen Lee Ramirez (27) of Ayrshire, IA came completely off the vehicle. The Explorer entered the south ditch sideways causing it to roll twice. An 8 year old child in the back seat was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. The deputy was able to avoid being involved in the accident and immediately rendered aid to the driver and her 3 passengers. Ruthven Fire and Ambulance as well as the Palo Alto County Ambulance responded. All 4 people in the Explorer were transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Ramirez was issued a citation for Failure to Secure a Child Under 18.

Arrest – Traffic / Theft 2nd Degree

On 7/11/2015 at approximately 11:01 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Viktor Vechirko, age 23 of Wesley, IA, for Operating while under the Influence (OWI)-1st Offense, a serious misdemeanor. Vechirko was also cited for failing to have a valid driver’s license and speeding which are traffic violations. Vechirko was stopped while operating a 2001 Dodge Ram Truck. At approximately 12:36 a.m., the Palo Alto County Communications received a 911 call reporting this vehicle had been stolen from a residence in Ruthven. As a result of this information, Vechirko is also being charged with Theft 2nd Degree-a Class D Felony. Vechirko was booked into the Palo Alto County, without incident, to await his initial appearance before a magistrate.

Accident

On Friday, July 10th, 2015, at approximately 10:20 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a call for a car/deer accident in the 2700 block of 420th Avenue (Highway 4). Following an investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office determined that Zulan Su, 37, of Estherville was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna southbound in the 2700 block of 420th Avenue. A deer entered the roadway from the east ditch and was struck by Su’s vehicle. There were no injuries reported in the accident. There is an estimated $3000.00 damage done to Su’s vehicle.

Arrest Warrants Served

On 7/9/2015 at approximately 2:32 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Curtis Wilke, age 39 of Emmetsburg, on valid warrants out of Palo Alto County. The warrants: Theft 5th Degree issued April 8th, 2015, Theft 4th Degree issued April 17th, 2015, Contempt-Fail to Pay issued April 17, 2015 and Dominion/Control of Firearm/Offensive Weapon by a Felon. Collectively the warrants carry a cash only bond of $11,825.00. Wilke was transferred from Emmet County Authorities and transported to the Palo Alto County Jail, without incident. Wilke was unable to post the $11,825.00 bond and booked into the Palo Alto County Jail to await his appearance before a magistrate.

Arrest Warrant Served

 On 7/8/2015 at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Aynslie Ladon Thorman, age 20, of Spencer, IA on a valid Palo Alto County warrant. The warrant, issued on 5/27/2015, is for Contempt of Court/Fail to Pay on an original charge of Possession of Alcohol under legal age. Thorman was transferred from Clay County Authorities and transported, without incident, to the Palo Alto County Jail. Thorman was booked into the Palo Alto County Jail, unable to post the $500.00 cash only bond and will wait for an appearance before a magistrate.  

Vehicle / Cow Accident

 

On 07-07-15 at approximately 4:20 a.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a truck that struck a calf that entered the roadway. A 2004 Kenworth T300 truck driven by Jonathan Owen Niece of Ankney, IA was heading south in the 3000 block of 420th Av. when he struck a calf that had gotten loose and entered the roadway. Niece was not able to avoid the calf. Damage to the truck was estimated at $1000 to the front guard on the truck. The calf, owned by Heather Ann Titus of Graettinger, IA died from the accident. The calf had an estimated value of $500. There were no injuries reported in this accident.

 

 

Car / Deer Accident

     

 

On 07-02-15 at approximately 10:00 p.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a car / deer accident in the 4300 block of 360th St. west of Emmetsburg. A 2004 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Tanya Lee Zeman of Whittemore, was heading west in the above location when she struck a deer that entered the roadway. Damage was estimated at $5000 to the vehicle. No injuries were reported in this accident.

 

 

Trespass – Interference with Official Acts

On Saturday June 27, 2015 at 4:46am the Palo Alto Sheriff’s Office received a report of a dispute at 302 S Jackson in Graettinger, IA. Deputies arrived and spoke to all involved.

 

Kevin Paul Wallin (37) of St. Peter, MN was placed under arrest for Serious Misdemeanor Trespassing. Wallin was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail where he was booked and released on a promise to appear citation for Trespass. Stephanie Ray Hanson (34) of Graettinger, IA tried to mislead the investigating deputy during his investigation and was subsequently cited for Interference with Official Acts, a Simple Misdemeanor.

1 Vehicle Accident / Semi Rollover

 

On 06-30-15 at approximately 6:50 p.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a semi rollover at the intersection of 390th St. and 580th Av. in Palo Alto County at the county line with Kossuth County.

 

A 2007 Kenworth semi driven by Marty Ray Loken of Blue Earth, Minnesota was pulling a trailer loaded with hogs. He was heading west bound on highway 18 coming to the intersection of highway 15 where Kossuth County and Palo Alto County meet and was going to turn south on highway 15. Loken was unable to negotiate the turn properly and turned the semi and trailer over onto the passenger side.

 

Loken was checked out by the Whittemore Ambulance service and was not transported. He received minor injuries in this accident. The semi that he was driving had an estimated $15,000 damage. The trailer had significant damage and was a total loss as the top had broken open and some of the hogs got out. The roof of the trailer had to be removed to get the rest of the hogs out and transported by another truck and trailer.

 

Loken was cited for failure to maintain control. There were approximately 9 hogs lost in this accident. No other injuries were reported.
