On 10/14/2015 at approximately 9:28 p.m., The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one vehicle accident in the 4600 block of 400th St. According to the investigation, a 2008 Toyota Tacoma, owned and driven by 62 yr. old Joseph Francis Neary, was westbound in the 4600 block of 400th St. A deer emerged from the north ditch and the Neary vehicle collided with it. Damage was estimated at $3500.00. There were no injuries at the time of the investigation.
On 10-14-2015 at 4:51 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old Aaron P. Krusen of Mallard, on a valid Palo Alto County warrant for Contempt of Court for failing to appear on an original charge of driving while suspended. Krusen was also arrest on a new charge of driving while suspended in connection with this incident. The arrest was initiated after a traffic stop was conducted in Mallard on the vehicle Krusen was operating. Krusen was placed in jail.
On 10-13-2015 at 8:26 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a call concerning a farm tractor accident in the 3500 block of 550 Ave. A 2006 Case IH STX 330, driven by 23 year old Serhii Sidelnyk of Whittemore, was south bound on the gravel when he steered to the right, over corrected to the left causing the tractor and the Houle 9500 manure tanker to veer across the road into the east ditch. The tractor continued through the ditch and struck some tress.
The tractor sustained extensive front end, hood and cab damage estimated at $90,000.00. The manure tanker was not damaged.
No injuries reported.
Sidelnyk was cited for failing to maintain control.
On 10/13/2015 at approximately 6:55 a.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a one vehicle accident in the 4700 block of 280th Street. Upon investigation it was determined that a green 2006 Chevy Silverado driven by Antonio Garcia Segura of Wallingford was eastbound on 280th Street when he approached a Case 4540 Floater owned by Max Yield Cooperative that was slowing to make a left hand turn into a field drive. Segura failed to reduce his speed in time and attempted to pass the Floater on the left. Segura lost control of his vehicle when he attempted to make the pass and entered the north ditch. The Segura vehicle slide sideways as it reentered the roadway. The Segura vehicle rolled once in the roadway and came to rest on the south side of the roadway.
The Segura vehicle was deemed a total loss. Segura was transported by private vehicle to Palo Alto County Hospital to be checked out for possible injuries. Segura was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.
On 10-12-15 at approximately 6:53 pm, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a one vehicle accident in the 3800 block of 300th St. A 2004 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Hillary Rae Pico of Graettinger, was heading east and came up over a hill hitting a rut in the roadway. That along with the strong crosswind sent the vehicle into a fishtail where she lost control of the vehicle and ended up in the north ditch hitting the embankment. She was taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital by private vehicle with non-incapacatating injuries. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5000.
On 10-12-15 at 3:54 pm, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of South St. and Campbell St. in Ayrshire. A 2013 Dodge Ram pickup driven by James Carl Schmidt of Ayrshire, was heading east on South St. when the vehicle he was driving struck a 2002 Ford Taurus driven by Avery Elizabeth Renee Ringlaben of Emmetsburg that was in the intersection.
Damage to the Schmidt vehicle was estimated at $1500 to the front and damage to the Ringlaben vehicle was estimated at $5000 to the passenger side. Ringlaben was cited for failure to yield to a vehicle on the right at an uncontrolled intersection. No injuries were reported at the scene.
On 10-12-15 at approximatley 4:45 P.M. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Shawn Dean Ruden (46) of Storm Lake Iowa on a valid Palo Alto County Warrant for Contempt of Court. Following his arrest Ruden was unable to post the $500.00 cash only bond and was placed in jail to await his initial appearance before a judge.
On 10/11/2015 at approximately 8:19 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to 1407 Center Street in Ruthven regarding an assault that had occurred. As a result of the investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Riley Alan Morton, age 23 of Ruthven, on the following charges: Serious Assault, a serious misdemeanor, Harassment 2nd Degree, a serious misdemeanor and Trespass, a simple misdemeanor. The arrest of Morton occurred at 1602 West Street in Ruthven. Morton was transported, without incident, to the Palo Alto County Jail where he awaits his in initial appearance before a magistrate.
On 10/10/2015 at approximately 12:48 p.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a one vehicle accident in the 3100 block of 435th Avenue. Upon investigation it was determined that a white 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue driven by Katie Lynn Olesen of Graettinger was southbound on 435th Avenue when she lost control of the vehicle. The Oldsmobile rolled onto its top and came to rest in the east ditch. The Oldsmobile was deemed a total loss.
There were no injuries reported on scene. Olesen was issued a citation for failure to maintain control.
On 10-07-15 at around 1:45 a.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two vehicle accident in the 3700 block of 480th Av. east of Emmetsburg.
A 2015 GMC Canyon pickup, owned and driven by James Richard Voigt of Algona, was heading south in the 3600 block of 480th Av. He fell asleep at the wheel and crossed Highway 18 and continued southbound in the 3700 block of 480th Av. At that time, a 2015 Freightliner semi owned by Max Yield and driven by Steven Russell Leman of Milford was pulling out onto 480th Av. from the Cenex station parking lot.
The pickup hit the Max Yield trailer towards the back tires. The GMC pickup was deemed a total loss. Damage to the trailer was estimated at approximately $30,000. Voigt was transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital with non life threatening injuries. Voigt was issued a citation for failure to obey a stop sign.
The Emmetsburg Fire Department and the Emmetsburg Ambulance service assisted at the scene.
