On September 6, 2015 at 9:00 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated an assault which occurred at a Ruthven residence. After investigating, a 17yr old male was arrested and charged with Willful Injury and Aggravated Assault. The juvenile was later transported to the Central Iowa Detention Center in Eldora, IA
On Sunday September 6, 2015 at 2:52 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office observed a male individual laying face down on a sidewalk. The deputy woke the individual up and identified him as 28 year old Billy Joel Sundall of Ruthven, IA. Sundall was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested for Public Intoxication. He was taken to the Palo Alto County Jail where he was booked into jail. Public Intoxication is a simple misdemeanor.
On Sunday, September 06, 2015 at approximately 01:13 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Clint Nelson, 38, of Fenton on valid Palo Alto County warrants. The warrants stem from original charges of theft in the 4th degree= serious misdemeanor and theft in the 5th degree= simple misdemeanor. Nelson was taken into custody and transported without incident to the Palo Alto County Jail. Bail was set for $1,250.00 for theft in the 4th degree and $250.00 for theft in the 5th degree. Nelson did not post bail and was placed in jail to await his initial appearance before a magistrate.
On Saturday, September 05, 2015, at approximately 5:50 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a car/deer accident in the 4100 block of Highway 4. Following an investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office determined that Elim Nickelson, 58 of Havelock, was driving his 2005 Ford Taurus in the 4100 block of Highway 4 when a deer entered the roadway from the west ditch and was struck by Nickelson’s vehicle. There were no injuries reported in the accident. Nickelson’s vehicle sustained an estimated $500.00 damage in the accident.
On September 5, 2015 at 11:20 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office found a motorcycle laying on the side of the road in the 4500-blk of 370 St.
Upon investigating, a 1983 RX50 Yamaha driven by Lyle Frederick of Emmetsburg, was traveling east on 370 St, when the front brake started to lock up. Frederick was attempting to pull over on the shoulder when the front tire started to slide and caused the motorcycle to tip over.
The Yamaha susstained no damage and Frederick received minor injuries.
On September 5, 2015, at 8:58am, The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office served an Emmet County warrant on Austin J. Stith of Granada, MN. Stith was stopped for a traffic violation and was able to post $500 cash for the Emmet County Warrant and was released. Warrant was for contempt of court, original charge, No valid Drivers License.
On Friday September 4, 2015 at 11:49pm a Palo Alto County Deputy on patrol located a man wanted on a Palo Alto County Warrant. 44 year old Shawn Eric Pattison of Graettinger, Iowa was arrested on the warrant. The warrant was issued for Pattison to serve 5 days in the Palo Alto County Jail on the original charge of Driving While Suspended. After placing Pattison under arrest, the arresting deputy located a container of methamphetamine on Pattison.
Pattison was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail where he was booked in to await his initial appearance before a judge. Along with the warrant, Pattison was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Methamphetamine, which is a Class “D” Felony.
On Tuesday September 1, 2015 Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office notified the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office of a active warrant on an inmate that was currently being held in the Palo Alto County Jail. A deputy served Kimberley Ann Priester (47) of Estherville, IA with a warrant for Contempt of Court for failing to pay fines. Priester’s bond was set at $705.50
On Saturday August 29, 2015 at 4:42pm the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Graettinger for a report of a group of individuals shooting Airsoft BB Guns at a group of juveniles at the City Park in Graettinger. The City of Graettinger has a city ordinance that prohibits the discharging of any kind of weapon including BB guns. 3 juveniles sustained minor injuries in the incident.
The Palo Alto Sheriff’s Office cited 3 juvenile males into juvenile court for the city ordinance of Discharging Weapons. 20 year old Victor Norman Handy of Graettinger was also among the group charged with Discharging Weapons.
On 9/4/15 at 9:30 A.M., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jonathan Michael Payer (33) of Ackley, Iowa on a valid Palo Alto County Arrest Warrant for Contempt of Court for failing to pay child support. Payer was unable to post the $500.00 cash only bond and was placed in jail to await his initial appearance before a judge.
