Domestic Assault Arrest

On 1-1-2018 at 12:38 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to 34099 320th Street in Ruthven, Ia for a report of a domestic assault in progress. Following an investigation at the scene, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jody Nibbelick (45) of Orange City, IA for Domestic Assault – Serious Misdemeanor. Nibbelick was subsequently transported and booked into the Palo Alto County Jail where he is currently awaiting an initial appearance before a judge. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Spencer Police Department, Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.

OWI Arrest

Following an investigation into a traffic stop on 12-30-2017 at 12:13 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael Olson (45) of Emmetsburg, Ia for O.W.I. – 1st Offense, a Serious Misdemeanor. Olson was also cited on the charge of Open Container, a Simple Misdemeanor. Olson was transported to the Palo Alto County Jail.

Two Vehicle Accident

On 12/29/2017 at 9:39 a.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a two vehicle accident at the intersection of 420th Avenue and 280th Street. Upon investigation it was determined that Isaac Reed Johnson of Spencer was northbound on 420th Avenue in a 2004 Chevy Malibu, owned by Michael Anthony Jonson of Spencer. Johnson was attempting to make a right turn on 280th Street from 420th Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle on the snow covered roadway and subsequently struck a 2007 Toyota Tundra driven and owned by Sonny Joe Banks of Spencer. Banks was stopped at the stop sign at this intersection, facing west, at the time of the accident. Johnson was traveling faster than the road conditions allowed at the time of the accident causing him to lose control.

Damage to the Johnson vehicle is estimated at $6,000.00 and the Banks vehicle at $4,500.00. Johnson was issued a citation Failure to Maintain Control. No injuries were reported on scene.

Car Deer Accident

On Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 05:57 a.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a car/deer accident in the 4000 block of 460th Avenue (Hwy 4). Following an investigation into the complaint, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office determined that Jessica Sinning (39), from Pocahontas, was driving her 2011 Toyota Rav4 southbound in the 4000 of 460th Avenue. A deer entered the roadway from the east ditch and was struck by Sinning’s vehicle. There were no injuries reported in the accident. Sinning’s vehicle sustained an estimated $500.00 damage in the accident.

Transport to Prison

At 1:10 a.m. on December 27, 2017, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of an intoxicated male subject walking in the 2900 block of 460th Avenue. Upon investigation, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Trenten Stallings (22) of Emmetsburg for 3rd Offense Public Intoxication, an aggravated misdemeanor. Stallings was placed in the Palo Alto County Jail to await an initial appearance in front of a judge.

Public Intoxication Arrest

At 1:10 a.m. on December 27, 2017, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of an intoxicated male subject walking in the 2900 block of 460th Avenue. Driving While Suspended

On Tuesday December 26, 2017 at 8:43 pm, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop in the 4800 Block of 460th Avenue. During the traffic stop, Linda Lou Carlson, age 39, of Buffalo Center was discovered to have a suspended drivers license. Following the traffic stop, Carlson was issued a citation for driving while suspended, which is a simple misdemeanor. Carlson was given a court date to appear at a later date.

Public Intoxication Arrest

On Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at 3:58 p.m., the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a male subject acting strange and yelling in the 1100 block of Scott Street, Ruthven, Iowa. Following an investigation into the report, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office arrested Santi Keonihn (38), of Ruthven on charges of 2nd offense public intoxication= serious misdemeanor and disorderly conduct= simple midemeanor. Keonihn was transported, without incident, to the Palo Alto County Jail and booked in to await his initial appearance before a magistrate.

Single Vehicle Accident

On December 22, 2017 at 7:58 am, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one vehicle rollover 2-3/4 mile west of Graettinger on B14. A 2003 Dodge Ram Quad Cab truck, driven by Ellie V. VonEhwegen of Terill, was east bound in the 3900-blk of 280St. and lost control on snowy road, entered the north ditch swideways and rolled several times, coming to rest on its wheel in the field.

VonEhwagen was transported to the Holy Family Hospital in Estherville by Graettinger Ambulance.

The Dodge Ram was considered a total loss. VonEhwagen was issued a citation for Failure to maintain Control.

Car Deer Accident

At 12:01 a.m. on December 19, 2017, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a car deer accident in the 4500 block of 545th Avenue. Fred Wirtz (58) of West Bend, was headed south on 545th Avenue when a deer exited the east ditch and struck the front of his 2011 Ford Super Duty. Damage to Wirtz’s pickup was estimated at $1,000 and no injuries were reported.
