On 04/11/2022 at 11:00 a.m. the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a railroad crossing arm that had been struck by a vehicle in the 3800 block of 360th Street. Upon investigation it was determined the accident occurred at 10:16 a.m. when a marron 2007 Toyota Avalon driven by and registered to Mason William Griffin of Curlew was traveling westbound on 360th Street. Griffin failed to notice in time that the railroad crossing arm was down as a train was approaching. Griffin would strike the railroad crossing arm causing it to break away from the signal base. The railroad crossing arm is owned by Canadian Pacific Railway.

Damage to the railroad crossing arm is estimated at $1,000.00. Damage to the Toyota is estimated at $1,300.00. No injuries were reported. Griffin was issued a citation for Failure to Properly Stop at Railroad Crossing.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
