On March 31st, 2022 at 06:05 am, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of motor vehicle accident in the 3700 block of 360th Street. Following an investigation into the accident, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office determined that Ellen Hotovec, (55) of Pocahontas, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado west bound in the 3700 block of 360th Street when she lost traction on the roadway. Hotovec over corrected her vehicle, slid into the south ditch which caused the vehicle to roll once and came to rest on the passenger side, trapping Hotovec inside. The Ruthven Fire Department was able to extricate Hotovec successfully. Hotovec did not sustain any injuries in the accident. There is an estimated $7,000 damage to Hotovec’s truck. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office cited Hotovec with failure to maintain control, which is a simple misdemeanor. The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Ruthven and Emmetsburg Ambulance Service, the Ruthven Fire Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
